The Fungi world (74) : Birch polypore
A fungus in the snow is not really an everyday scene, but I found one.
It’s a Birch polypore, a fungus that grows almost exclusively on weakened birches as a parasite and causes brown rot and eventually death of the tree, as happened with the one in the shot.
Dutch name : Berkenzwam
German name : Birkenporling
Latin name : Piptoporus betulinus

This fungus looks enormous and with its colouring as if it is mimicking the bark of the birch. How unusual with all this snow - you'll have to go back to photograph it in the Spring. A beautifully composed and taken image!!cheers, Adele
