Kairouan Mosque
Kairouan Temple is the greatest mosque in Tunisia and it is considered one of the oldest sites of worship in the islamic world. It is situated in the Unesco world Heritage town of Kairouan, established in 670AD and it spreads over a surface of 9000 sq m. Through the ages became annexed to the University and many scholars have tought in the mosque making it the center of education of many secular subjects , such as astronomy,medicine, math, botany as well as Theology and propagation of islamic thought. With the gradual decline of the city of Kairouan from the mid-11th century, the centre of intellectual thought moved eventually to the university of Tunis.
