The Killing Fields
The Killing Fields of Cambodia are a place for shocked silence. Hundreds of skulls fill the Stupa, or memorial a short drive from Phnom Penh. Shoes can still scuff the ground and expose human bone and clothing still worn by the skeletons that lie only millimetres below the path surfaces on which visitors walk. It is a place where locals and tourists alike reflect on the horror of genocide, and silently ask themselves: "Why?"
