Time Warp...
…or I’ll tell you about cheap gas, sonny!
This restored 1946 Chevrolet pickup truck at my neighborhood Shell station seems
to be enjoying a time warp irony in the sunshine of this early autumn afternoon.
While gasoline prices have been in a comfortable range of late, she can remember the optimistic
time when she rolled off the post World War Two assembly line…auto factories returning to
building cars and trucks instead of tanks and airplanes…and gas at just 21 cents a gallon.
Then again, average annual income in the U.S. was $3,150, and you could buy a car for $1,400!
Oh, yes, and music had melody. (*)
So, gas per gallon price as of this autumn afternoon, 2015…Detroit Iron as of the optimistic year
of 1946…Ahhh, but the Great Pumpkin atop the station and the harvest time touches are timeless,
as Cardinal Plaza Shell in West Springfield, Virginia gets ready for autumn and Halloween.

Your presentation of that fantastic vehicle reminds me a bit of the photos by Andreas Feininger. Though the charm ist the car´s color, in b/w it surely would fit in his series of the Route 66. Gread picture, Steve!Matthias Moritz 25/09/2015 15:04
