Tribeca Impression No.3

One of my never-ending delights in walking about with a camera in New York is
stumbling upon those little islands of gentle serenity nestled amidst the larger urban scale.

On a late afternoon in June, I was exploring the Tribeca neighborhood
along Duane Street, just off Greenwich Street. Amidst all the dark
facades of old brick commercial buildings converted to residential space
and neighborhood restaurants is a small but inviting triangular pocket park.

That very special late afternoon New York sunlight, whose shafts from
the west had made for some dramatic shadow plays along the street,
was bringing a lovely translucence to the ferns and flowers in Duane Park,
which I attempted to capture in this Tribeca impression.

I also created a monochrome version of this image, called “Pocket Park.” I like
them both for different reasons, but as the moments in Duane Park that inspired them
were such an unexpected pleasure on that June afternoon, I decided to share both.

Both images are available in archival gallery prints and in a new range of custom
printed Tribeca Photo Note cards, including realist photographs and impressions.

And again Ansel Adams: "A good photograph is knowing where to stand". I think it wasn´t that easy to find a reasonable position for taking a picture of this tiny park that includes enough of Tribeca to be located there.
