As Uki already writes, it is getting more and more difficult in the Masai Mara with the many tourists.
Exactly as you write, Tarek and Sand River are still possible.
You have chosen a wonderful position for this picture. Top picture.

  I wonder where it is going to end , one day there will be an accident with a brave ( stupid) tourist going to the river banks where all predators following their prey are , and then puppets will dance , since I am a more then regular visitor of the mara , I happen to know some places , Regards

  I've even seen it before. These taxi buses full of Chinese. 16 people per minibus, all of whom got out and stood on the> edge. Something was going on, the good guides scolded, the real photographers scolded, but they weren't bothered by it.
  Now I only go in February and July until mid-August, when the crowds aren't there.
  They destroy their own business with the masses. Unfortunately.

  Those are the people guided by Nairobi drivers listing the big five , come in busses and indeed no rules are applicable when they start seeing something spectacular ,getting out of the car with all dangers involved . I used to go in feb , now I go mostly to NDUTU area in TZ , calving season happens there and of road is possible and allowed , lots of predators , July , august seems still very crowdy to me , mid September is when I go and stay for about 4/6 weeks BR Regi

As a lover of Kenya and specially of the Masai Mara I look at these famous picture very intensive. What a great shot of the crossing in this sunlit dust! Your low position to take this pic was really perfect to show us these grandios scene! Did you take the 600er lens?
I saw the crossing 5 times in the last 10 years and every time it was different. But unfortunately the tourism changed to the negative. Nevertheless I will try it this year again.

  Hallo Uli , the image was taken with a prime 300 mm lens at indeed at low angle point , ( car without door ) as you mentioned , tourism isn't like it was ten years or more ago , still there are some good spots , like the talek or sand river where crowds are less , regards Regi
