zagorochoria
West Greece Epirus Zagori (Zagorochoria).
Epirus, in the western part of Greece, is one of the most mountainous and "rough" parts of the country. Zagori is a large region of villages (zagorochoria from Zagori and " chorio"= village) spread and perched among the mountains and they have become well known through many years because of their skillful craftsmen that built them, since 1700, with very interesting architectural characteristics. Most of them enjoyed a certain degree of independency during the Ottoman occupation because of their remote and not easily reached location.
Pambico, to which the photo belongs,is among the most visited place in the region. On the far end, behind the last houses of the village, rises the imposing bulk of the Tzoumerca mountains.

the ancient stone huts demonstrate their subservience to the authority of the mountains by snuggling close to the ground, whereas the patron mountains themselves are proudly rising towards the sky, not afraid to challenge the world and the gods… ; ) and thus, the image seems to be divided into two opposing moods: a humble loveliness down below vs. an awe-inspiring magnificence up above! very impressive, both the scenery and the image! greetings, sabine.Adele D.
