Beauty isn't enough...
Greece
Lakes Prespes in the remotest part of West Macedonia at the borders with Albania and Fyrom.
One of the most beautiful regions of Greece but also of the poorest.. Also. one of the biggest bird habitats in Mediterranean and protected by the UNESCO.The two picturesque lakes, the Big Prespa and Small Prespa are encirled by mountains snow covered during long winters and the land is very poor to provide substantial crops to the few local villages. For many years this region was very much behind development with cattle and fishing being the only occupations for the locals. In the recent years turism has given a fresh breath
and some new opportunities.
The photo was taken at sunrise with parts of the lake still frozen.
Photo with MAMIYA 645 AF, film Provia 120 slide(6x4,5), scanned to digital. later.

beauty isn't enough, no. beauty doesn't feed hungry mouths. it's too insubstantial, too fickle, too arbitrary. an outsider (a tourist, for example) might be struck by the breathtaking beauty of a place or vista, while the local calling it home will curse its barrenness from time to time or call it a godforsaken place… beauty is bias. beauty is based on education. beauty is completely in the eye of the beholder. fairy-tale parents have a tendency to favor the youngest child, the fool, the ugly duckling over the most promisingly beautiful – weight of the stern… what i find most strikingly beautiful here, though, is the juxtaposition of the majestic but cold and aloof beauty of the mountain range with the loveliness of the blooming landscape below! – – an eye-opening image and a very interesting text, as always, alexander! greetings, sabine.Harold Thompson 06/04/2015 9:49

Very often such majestic and beautiful places are inhospitable to man, making it very hard to scrape a living, but it is still a place of great beauty.Superb light and shade here and great tones.
