Chapter closed in 1959....
Cuba
Avana
8 January 1959,,, Fidel Castro.s forces entered Avana. Batista fled. A totalitarian noble regime based on an incredable wealth accumulated in the island mainly through black money from the Maffia business collapsed.. The rich noble class fled hastily leaving behind their estates and palaces and the working proletarian class took hold of them sharing their content. Since then, not even a broken window glass has been replaced, not even a door repaired or wall repainted, They remain morbid remnants, as if deliberately, to remind a tyrannic and corrupted past with their current peniless tenants sneaking in and out...
Will it be any change?

mike said it all! until now cuba was an island in so many senses, almost untouched by globalization – a gift and a curse… –, even though, i find it exciting that cuba is about to "enter the world" again, i do share mikes grisly visions, too: shopping malls, polished facades, foreign investors and fading character etc.… is there a downside of freedom, though? greetings, sabine.SINA 23/11/2015 11:43

Perfectly expressed the mood of the city in this lovely and telling picture. No time to loose if one wants to see Cuba in this state of decay. Things are to change very soon.
Fantastic photo, Alexander.

Wonderful shot!Harold Thompson 20/11/2015 9:31
What would have been a fine looking building left to decay:-)) Harold

A superb picture of tthis once grand and oppulent building that has been left to go to wrack and ruin by those who cannot afford, and do not wish to renovate it. But, before long the developers will move in, demolish it all and it will probably end up all concrete and glass and be rated as wonderful... marvelous... and the past glory will be gone for ever.:))

an image shooting well ... the description illustrates the contents.A genre that I prefer ..a form of photojournalism as evidence of events occurred which affected for good or bad a people and a society
Bravo Alexandros. good day

an image that tells of faded beauty and grand days - soon possibly to go and along with it the ambience and the appeal for photographers .... an excellent capture combining the neglected fine architecture with the people living in it !!greetings, Adele

i quire like the fact that havana has not seen a lick of paint in years.it won't be long now when it will come under US influence.it will be shopping malls, swanky modern hotels and all the past will be wiped out, almost overnight.there's something grand in fading elegance.of course i agree with the political point you are making.great pic, alexander.
fav.
warm regards.
