Filmic NYC No.11 - View to a Chopper and Brooklyn Heights
It was a fine, sunny, low humidity late Friday June afternoon - perfect for watching the parade of choppers
landing and departing from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport on the East River from this vantage point
along South Street - even more perfect for flying around the tip of Manhattan, flirting with Lady Liberty (*),
and then scooting up the Hudson to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and back (**).
In this tele-compressed view, one can see, past the Bell 206 Jet Ranger on its pad, to Brooklyn Heights,
its long tree-lined Promenade cantilevered over the two levels of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and
downtown Brooklyn's skyline beyond, with a liberal sprinkling of NYC's iconic rooftop wooden water
towers lurking amidst the architecture for good measure.
The view was captured on Kodak Tri-X film.
This is its first appearance, as it joins a portfolio of New York
scenes captured over the years on black and white film.
