"The Island Where People Forget to Die"
(Dan Buettner, The New York Times, October 24, 2012).
The island of Ikaria is one of the four “Blue Zones” of the planet, where the average lifespan is markedly higher, with over 10%
of the population living more than 90 years. The other places are Okinawa (Japan), Sardinia, and Nicoya (Costa Rica).
There have been several scientific attempts to define this reality, and in most of them the reasoning is a list of combination
of healthy way of living, working hard to cultivate their own land and provide pure organic diet, zero stress (called by locals
“rachati, from the turkish, arabic, “rahat”, meaning resting, relaxing, having a break), laughter, and enjoy life and people’s companion in fiestas dancing. Throughout the island there are 2-8 “panigyria” (festivals) every month. Armenistis, Island of Ikaria, 2nd June, 2017…
