"The resurrection" from the interior of the church.
"The resurrection" is a fresco, another masterpiece of late Byzantine(Paleologian) Rennaissance, from 14th century AD. It is presented in the apse of a side chapel and it depicts Christ as he is raising in triumph and picking Adam and Eve out of their tombs. The motions are executed with a grace of a ballet. There are many other figures around, among them John the Baptist, King David and others. Byzantine painters and mosaicists were particularly interested in depicting a spiritual internal nature in their representations.

What fascinates me in this kind of pieces is the feeling of several layers of meaning. I feel there is so much more there but can't really grasp it.Alfredo Ruiz Baltanás 17/10/2014 17:11
It is very interesting detail as Christ pulls them by the wrists. No gives them the hand ,but pulling her wrists to get them out of the tomb, meaning that the Resurrection comes from the strength of their action ... The Byzantine painting is a wonderful, elegant and colorful theology. With the best wishes
Alfredo
Alfredo
