Washington Summer (By Union Station)
I always like it when I can latch on to a summer day in Washington that has the rare combination of
bright sunshine and low humidity (!) and to find aspects of the city that are not overrun by tourists.
Nothing wrong with tourists, mind you - I've been one myself...in many places ;-)
But the challenge is often finding that "quiet" spot where inanimate details can fill a frame.
I would not have expected to find such "quiet" so close by Washington's bustling Union Station,
but there it was on a late afternoon earlier this month, and it was all the more inviting to me with
the detail-enhancing quality of the late afternoon sun and the long shadows it was casting.
Also, the nice dry breeze allowing the flags to billow so nicely.
The sidewalk leads to Union Station, just out of sight on the left. The building at left is
the Securities and Exchange Commission - Office of Investor Education and Advocacy,
and seen at right is the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building.

a well chosen angle for this image, Steve ... great combination of old andnew architecture, the bicycle and the shadows nicely balanced ... and a
hot quiet feel to the scene !!!
warm regards,
